Villager Finds Riches in Tobacco Farms

Naqelelesi Tikolevu, 59, believes in the old adage – no pain no gain.
The Nailaga villager lived this well-known saying as he cultivated his two-and a half acres of land in Nasolo, Ba to plant tobacco on his farm.
Mr Tikolevu said tobacco farming had many benefits.
“I used to farm only cash crops, but when I entered into this farming business I realised the good returns it has,” he said.
“I just harvest the plants at my farm. The workers of British American Tobacco (BAT) company usually weigh the sacks of tobacco leaves and we are paid based on the weight. It’s good money.
“All we have to do is plant and keep on cultivating it and after three months we harvest.”
It was his wife, who first started tobacco farming two years ago. He joined her last year.
