Vitogo villagers are mourning the death of their headman, Ratu Napolioni Waqa.

Ratu Napolioni died after the car he was driving veered off the road and landed into a drain.

His elder brother Ratu Isoa Momolevu said the incident occurred around 4am on the Kings Road in Lautoka when Ratu Napolioni fell asleep while driving.

“There were two other passengers in the vehicle, but Ratu Napolioni sustained serious injuries,” Ratu Isoa said.

Ratu Isoa learned about his brother’s passing from a family member.

“He was the turaga-ni-koro for a while and he was a good person. We have a sibling in Australia. Funeral arrangements will be discussed once the entire family is present,” he said.

Police spokesperson Wame Bautolu confirmed the incident as investigations continue.

Ratu Napolioni is survived by his son and wife, Sainimili.
