Footbridge Upgrade Ray Of Hope To Qauia Community

Fijians living at Qauia Settlement in Lami, no longer have to wait for floodwaters to recede in order to reach their homes, thanks to the opening of their refurbished high footbridge.
It was commissioned yesterday by the Assistant Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Jovesa Vocea.
This upgraded bridge will benefit over 3500 people living at Qauia.
Saravina Qasevakatini Levu, 69, who has been living in Qauia for more than 20 years, expressed her gratitude to everyone involved in making the project possible.
“During severe weather, we used to make sure we cross the bridge before it got flooded, so we wouldn’t be stranded on the other side. I am thankful that we no longer have to endure such hardships,” she said.
“Our prayers have been answered, and we are overjoyed to witness this day. We pledge to maintain the bridge in good condition, as it will be used by everyone entering or leaving Qauia Settlement.”
