Government Chucks Out $600Million Foreshore Plans

The Government chucked out an application for a lease renewal of a multi-million dollar high rise development in the capital city, in a move meant to deter all other developers over the proper use of State land.
Tian Lun Investment PTE Ltd’s proposed foreshore development at Nasese was valued at an estimated $600 million for a period of 36 years from 2018.
“Any such breach of State land will face a similar fate,” Lands minister Filimoni Vosarogo said, while citing concerns over the developers’ failure to meet special conditions.
“The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources has refused to extend the development lease for Tian Lun Investment PTE Limited.”
Mr Vosarogo said the recent ministerial decision was based on the developers’ failure to:
- Obtain sub-divisional approval of the scheme plan within six months of the date of issue of the development lease.
- Obtain approval of the engineering plan within nine months of the date of the issue of this development lease.
- Commence site and construction works and all other necessary works within 12 months of the date of the issue of this development lease.
- The development plans are to be submitted to the lessor and Suva City Council for prior approval before the commencement of any work.
