Makoi Bulldogs Coach Vunivere Passes Away

The country’s rugby league fraternity is mourning the passing away of Makoi Bulldogs head coach Maika Vunivere.
Vunivere also coached the Fiji Bati 9s rugby league team to the 2015 Pacific Games in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea and the Fiji Residents rugby league side. He also served as a board member of the Fiji National Rugby League.
With the Bulldogs, he groomed former Fiji Bati representative of Jone Wesele, Semi Cakau and Autiko Rokobuli.
Vunivere was a very much–loved figure in the Makoi community where he used rugby league to motivate many young people to play the sport. This helped them to find employment or get overseas club contracts, enabling them to have a secured future with their families.
As coach on club or national level, Vunivere was always vocal in ensuring that the players’ welfare is taken care off.
