Nabeedan Mohammed’s donation of the Light Therapy Unit will enhance the level of care provided at the Ba Aspen Hospital Maternity Unit.

The former Ba resident who now lives in Australia made the donation in memory of her late mother, Mariatu Mohammed.

Gavin Whiteside, the acting CEO of Aspen Medical in Fiji, said the technology was new to hospitals in the Western Division.

“This agile and effective machine allows parents and caregivers to be closer to their babies during treatment,” Mr Whiteside said.

“Aspen Medical treasures its relationship with the community and appreciates all the love and support the two campuses continue to receive from our amazing local communities.”

The BiliSoft Phototherapy System delivers healing phototherapy that meets and exceeds the American Academy of Paediatrics recommendations.

“We are honoured to have the community work with us in realising our goal of providing world-class healthcare to all Fijians for free at our public hospitals. Ms Nabeedan Mohammed’s generous gift is humbling,” Mr Whiteside said.

Under a Public-Private Partnership with the Fijian Government, Health Care (Fiji) Pte Limited, trading as Aspen Medical, assumed management of Lautoka Hospital on April 1, 2022, and Ba Hospital on April 9, 2022.
