Family Of Eight Homeless After Fire Destroys House

Eight people are temporarily staying at a neighbour’s home after their five-bedroom home at the Natabua seaside in Lautoka was destroyed in a fire on Tuesday.
Fisherman Davneel Kumar, 33, said his family lost most of their belongings in the fire.
“I don’t know how it started,” he said.
“Luckily no one was injured. We all managed to come out on time. The first thing I wanted to do was get all my family members out.”
“This is our family house. I stayed here all 33 years of my life and we lost everything except for the refrigerator and the settee.”
National Fire Authority (NFA) chief executive officer Puamau Sowane said 87 per cent of Mr Kumar’s home was destroyed in the fire.
“The house was owned by Davneel and was occupied by a family of six adults and two children. There were no injuries or fatality involved. The house was occupied by his mother and brother when the fire started,” he said.
