Ministry Of Education Hastens Applications For Delana Primary School Parents

The parents of Delana Primary School students, who were injured in a bus accident, are relieved their applications for accident compensation are expedited.
On June 21, a Classic bus driven by 27-year-old Apisai Nacia of Vitogo, tumbled at Ajodhya Prasad Street in Banaras, Lautoka, injuring students of Year 1 to Year 8 of Delana Primary School.
The Ministry of Education and the school administration have taken steps to speed up the accident compensation form lodging process.
Staff from the Divisional Education Office West (DEOW) will visit parents of Elenoa Gukiwasa who was involved in the accident.
Teresia Sokoveti, mother of Year 1 student Elenoa Gukiwasa, who lost part of her arm in the accident, said the house-to-house visits would assist low-income earning families like hers.
She lives with her five children and her sole breadwinner husband at Namoli Village, Lautoka.
“My husband works as a casual carpenter before the accident, but now he has stopped just to help look after our other children, so it’s been hard on us,” she said.
Namoli Village is 2.1 kilometres from Delana Primary School and a six minutes’ drive.
“The reimbursement of taxi fares is also timely because Elenoa will have her first review at the Lautoka Hospital tomorrow, which is $4 by taxi if we go.”
Mere Nawalu is another grateful mother. The school would be reimbursing transportation costs to take her Year 8 son, Maika Yalayala, to the Lautoka Aspen Hospital and Punjas Hospital.
