“One major problem here is dust that comes from the carpark and the floors of these stalls are also cracked, they are old and must be changed. I plead with the Government of the day to hear us out.”

Pasela (or fish parcel) vendors want the Labasa Town Council (LTC) to carry out proper maintenance of their stalls.

At the moment, the stalls deplorable structural state only speaks volumes when it meets the eye.

Vendors representative Divulagi Ellen said the poor state and temporary structure of their stalls have been the subject of discussion.

“I’ve been here for almost 10 years and nothing has changed,” Ms Ellen said.

“One major problem here is dust that comes from the carpark and the floors of these stalls are also cracked, they are old and must be changed. I plead with the Government of the day to hear us out.”

Adjacent to their stall is a carpark from where the breeze collects and carries dust onto food stalls during dry days.

There is no area for customers to sit and eat.

Labasa Town special administrator Doreen Robinson said LTC started maintenance work last weekend and would continue this week.
