9-Day Carnival Launched In Labasa

For the first time the Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival will be held for nine days.
On Saturday night organisers met with contestants for the pre-carnival launch.
There will be 22 contestants competing in queens, kings, teens and princesses categories.
Digicel Duavata Northern Crime Prevention Carnival chairperson Satish Kumar said this would definitely draw more people to the carnival either to render their support or enjoy the entertainment, food and ferries wheel ride.
The nine-day event will begin this Friday at Subrail Park in Labasa to allow stall operators and other business stakeholders to set up their area and make extra income.
The official opening will be on Saturday with President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere as chief guest.
Mr Kumar said this was the first carnival in the Northern Division this year and those who paid for stalls to sell their products and produce would want to avoid incurring losses.
“We have 22 contestants competing in queens, kings, teens and princesses categories and this will definitely draw more people to the carnival either to render their support or enjoy the entertainment, food and ferries wheel ride,” Mr Kumar said.
“Our aim is to raise $100,000 so that we can start with the maintenance and installation of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in Labasa Town.”
