11 Typhoid Cases Hit Namosi

Members of some villages in Namosi have been advised to restrict movements and avoid unnecessary mass gatherings.
The Ministry of Health and Medical Services confirmed an outbreak of typhoid cases because of a mass gathering on April 23 at Wainiyavu Village.
The ministry has confirmed 11 recorded cases of typhoid from the end of May to the end of June.
Seven cases were recorded at Wainiyavu Village, one case each at Burotu, Wainimakutu, Wailoaloa and Nabukavesi villages.
The outbreak was caused by the use of contaminated river water for household purposes while the water dam was being serviced, the ministry said.
In response, a medical team has been mobilised to conduct disease investigations, community screening, and water and stool sampling.
Neighbouring villages had been advised to restrict movements and avoid unnecessary mass gatherings.
