National Fire Authority Awaits $109 Fee For Fire Report

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has yet to pay the National Fire Authority (NFA) an initial fee of $109 for the Vatuwaqa Primary School fire investigation report.
This is according to NFA chief executive officer, Puamau Sowane.
The matter was highlighted by Opposition Member of Parliament, Viliame Naupoto, who quizzed the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, yesterday in Parliament on the delay and the status of the school’s fire investigation.
“The school was burnt on the eve of Election Day, it’s probably the first school that fell on your lap when you came to Government,” Mr Naupoto said.
“Are there plans to also include Vatuwaqa in this upgrade?”
On December 12, 2022, a fire burned one school block and partially damaged another, with initial report suggesting that fire occurred around 2am.
On December 13, NFA classified the fire as suspected arson, which followed confirmation from police that ‘a few people’ had been interviewed but no one has been charged yet.
