Etu Tusitala, the man brought in to be the strength and conditioning coach of the men’s 7s team, has claimed substantial unpaid salaries from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU).

This was confirmed by FRU’s interim board chairman, Peter Mazey, during an interview at the Fiji Sports Commission office in Suva.

(We have chosen not to disclose the amount).

Mr Mazey said Tusitala’s monetary claims goes far back as the beginning of this year.

But former board member Dr Emosi Taloga said the previous board had ceased Tusitala’s salary last year after they had called for an investigation into his contract and his recruitment process.

Tusitala, a Samoan national, signed a three-year contract for services with the Union beginning March 16, 2022.

Tusitala is not the first expatriate to be engaged as Fiji’s strength and conditioning coach.

On top of his salary claim, Mr Mazey said Tusitala also claimed unpaid accommodation.

“We also questioned him being paid accommodation, because I heard he was living with Ben Gollings, but Ben has already been paid accommodation,” Mr Mazey said.
