FNU Catering Course to Meet Industry Demand

The College Of Business, Hospitality And Tourism Studies, has sharpened graduates into the fast pace working tourism industry.

School of Tourism and Studies’ Senior Lecturer, Sunil Sinha said as tourism being one of the backbone of Fiji’s economy, there are various career opportunities available for the graduates from the programmes.

Mr Sinha said graduates also find employment abroad, as Fiji significantly contributes to the workforce needs of our neighbouring countries: Australia and New Zealand.

Fiji National University’s, (FNU) College of Business, Hospitality and Tourism Studies’ (CBHTS) School of Hospitality and Tourism offers a total of nine programmes.

Mr Sinah said there are programmes offered for Cookery, Food and Beverage Service, and Bakery and Patisserie.

 

“These programmes are also offered at three different levels, starting from certificate level three and four diploma level five,”

“After completing their diploma, the students are eligible to upgrade to an undergraduate degree programme in a Bachelor of Hospitality and Hotel Management,” he said.

Mr Sinah said there are total number of 317 students currently enrolled in the Food & Beverage programmes.

 

He said the Food and Beverage sector in Hospitality and Tourism industry, is a major employer.

He added that the programmes can be pursued by anyone who has a passion for service, tourism, food and beverage and hospitality.

Mr Sinah said they even accommodate students who are yet to complete their high school education.

 

“These students can enrol in our Certificate level three and Certificate level four programmes respectively,”

These programmes empower young Fijians with the knowledge and skills required to have a successful career in our thriving food and beverage sector in our world-renowned tourism industry.

These programmes are also suited for individuals who have working industry-experience but are missing the required qualification in their respected fields.

 

Mr Sinah said there is a very high demand for graduates and students will absorbed in the industry as soon as they graduate.

He said a number of our graduates and alumni, are now professionals within the tourism and hospitality sectors locally, regionally and internationally.
