Editorial: PS Education Drama Continues With Interest Declared

So, the general secretary for the Fijian Teachers Association, Paula Manumanunitoga, has finally declared that he himself applied for the Permanent Secretary for Education post.
You don’t say!
While there is no known conflict of interest, the least Mr Manumanunitoga could have done was initially declare it.
Last week, he said that members of the association were unhappy with the appointment of Selina Kuruleca supposedly because she had not held any senior positions within the ministry.
When asked whether he applied for the top post, he neither confirmed nor denied.
But yesterday, he dropped this bombshell.
Ms Kuruleca was shortlisted among 11 people who applied for the post.
However, that became the talk of the town when the Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro, the FTA and the Fiji Teachers Union (FTA) rallied against her appointment.
After several back-and-forth decisions by the Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka last week, Cabinet will today decide on its decision to go with Ms Kuruleca or otherwise.
Where to from here will this saga take us. We certainly hope it ends there so that the incumbent can ‘get on with the job’ as Ms Kuruleca says.
