‘RFMF Not The Answer’

Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, the commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), has broken his silence regarding speculation of a potential military intervention in the country’s affairs.
The speculation arose when a set of documents surfaced on social media, suggesting a deterioration of the rule of law in Fiji and calling for the military to intervene in the Government’s affairs.
Major-General Kalouniwai, in an interview last night, reassured Fijians that the RFMF had undergone significant changes and was not the same organisation it once was.
“The RFMF is not the answer, and that is why we haven’t been saying been saying much,” Major-General Kalouniwai said.
“We believe that the Government should run itself, and they have the responsibility for the people that put them there.
“They need to stand up and take responsibility for the things they need to do. We will continue to advocate standing by the rule of law and order.
“We will always advocate that things need to be done in a democratic process. There needs to be dialogue, transparency, and respect for the constitution in the process, as that will give us stability and trust.”
He assured the people of Fiji that the RFMF was not the author of the recent documents that had surfaced.
