Defence To File No Case To Answer Tomorrow

The trial of former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and suspended Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho, will see “No Case to Answer” submissions tomorrow. 

The prosecution concluded its case after calling nine witnesses in the Magistrates Court in Suva. 

Bainimarama and Qiliho are on trial for their alleged involvement in the termination of a Police investigation related to the University of the South Pacific in July 2019.  

The seventh day of the trial took place before Magistrate Seini Puamau at the Suva Magistrates Court. Represented by R Patel Lawyers Devanesh Sharma and Gul Fatima, Bainimarama is facing a charge of attempted to pervert the course of justice, while Qiliho is charged with abuse of office.
