Parents who leave their children in vehicles while they party at nightclubs and pubs should be held accountable, says Shamima Ali.

The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre (FWCC) coordinator said it was worrying that some parents prioritise club life over their children’s well-being.

“We need to have some legal remedies to this,” she said.

“Parents should have more responsibility with children.”

She was responding to the new-found habit last weekend witnessed by Police officers.

Minister for Women Children and Social Protection, Lynda Tabuya said: “No child should have to experience this.”

She said such dangerous situation could contribute to child abuse, which was prevalent in local communities.
