Landowners of Naqere, Taveuni have suggested to relevant authorities to consider relocating the dump site on the island.
Minister for Local Government Maciu Katamotu was enlightened of this during his recent Northern Division tour.
“The landowning unit where the current dump site is, wants authorities to relocate the dump site,” Mr Nalumisa said.
Taveuni is not spared when it comes to this issue of the dump site because rubbish has outgrown its capacity.
He said the ministry, iTaukei Lands Trust Board (TLTB) and other relevant authorities were pursuing efforts to identify a suitable location.
“We will ask TLTB to look for a place where we can relocate the dump site.”
The new location will help Taveuni with its waste management problem.
In order to formally acquire the land, the Ministry of Local Government is collaborating closely with the Savusavu Town Council and other organisations
