Miscommunication from Secondary School Netball Officials Cost School Disqualification

Two secondary school netball teams have called for fair play in the running of the Fiji Secondary Schools Netball competition.
The call comes from Ballentine Memorial School (BMS) and Holy Cross College (HCC) after they were told at the eleventh hour that they did not qualify for the quarterfinals.
BMS Open girls coach Jiuteci Lesumairotorua, and HCC and Taveuni Secondary Schools netball association president, Unaisi Rovanalevu, have claimed that there was miscommunications on how the draws were handled.
Questions emailed to FSSNA president Karalaini Seruiratu regarding the issues were not answered when this edition went to print, last night.
Lesumairotorua said the BMS girls had returned to school when they were told they did not qualify for the quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
“They (officials) were not firm with their decisions. They had the by-laws, which they are supposed to follow and it seemed like they had their own little rules,” she claimed.
“We presented our grievances in writing as we felt sorry for our students (who were crying).
“There were miscommunications and loop holes.
“We enquired with the officials three times but was told the same thing; we were not through so we returned to school.”
“At about 5.30pm we were called by one of our teachers who was at the Vodafone Arena, who heard that they were requesting for our team manager to fill our team slip for the quarter-finals.”
