Arsonist, 52, Granted Bail
The 52-year-old man who set fire to a house that was completely destroyed at Waibunabuna, Lekutu, in Bua, was granted bail on Thursday afternoon.
Pratap Singh, a farmer, from Namara Settlement in Labasa was bailed on a bond of $3000.
He was allegedly charged with a count of arson.
Police prosecutor, Constable Vishal Verma, objected to bail, considering the seriousness of the incident.
He said the case was of public interest and this was a condition for objection.
The alleged incident is believed to have occurred just after 8pm on Monday.
Full disclosures are yet to be finalised.
Magistrate Safaira Ratu bailed the accused and told him not to reoffend during this time.
The matter was adjourned for plea on September 26, 2023.
