A father’s hope for a bright future for his only son is no more after a fatal road accident between Ba and Tavua.

Faiyaz Mohammed lost hope of everything after his son Mohammed Azmal Faiyaz, 21, died in the accident. Azmal and two relatives were travelling in a car to visit a sick relative in hospital when the accident happened.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said the accident happened at the Vatia Road junction between Ba and Tavua.

Ms Naisoro said a cane truck, driven by a 64-year-old of Natunuku travelling towards Ba, collided with a vehicle driven by a 29-year-old man of Waibuka, Ba.

Azmal was a passenger in the vehicle driven by the 29-year-old.

“The victim was the passenger and the driver and the other passenger sustained serious injuries.” Ms Naisoro said.

National Fire Authority personnel had to use an excavator machine to free the vehicles and the trapped passengers.

Mr Faiyaz has two children – a daughter who is married in America and Azmal.

“I lost everything and I have lost hope because my only son is no more,” Mr Aiyaz said.

“The farm was given to him to inherit. Early in the morning he will be out in the farm. He was a discipline young man and I count on him for every affairs of our family.

“I bought him a vechile and I was planning to build a house for him and look for a good wife for him to marry. All those plans came to an end and this is heart breaking.”

He will be buried today.
