Vunisinu villagers in Rewa were in a jovial mood as they hosted the Vodafone Super Deans Trophy champions Queen Victoria School Under-18 rugby team on Saturday. The village is also the home of QVS hero Alipate Ratunagasau.

The chief guest at the celebration was Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica.

Speaking to SUNsports, Ratunagasau’s guardian Cama Raimuria said the event served as a significant platform to acknowledge the No.8’s outstanding achievement.

“Alipate was awarded the prestigious title of the Best Player of the final,” Raimuria said.

“This underscored not only his exceptional talents and dedication but also his deep connection to the local community.”

Raimuria said Ratunagasau’s achievement was a source of immense pride for the vanua of Rewa.

“The celebration provided an opportunity for the community to rally behind one of their own, celebrating his remarkable success on the rugby field,” he said.

Kamikamica in his address inspired the winning QVS rugby team and school children to stay humble, respect and seek God’s guidance.

Raimuria said Kamikamica left an indelible mark on the young athletes and the school children in attendance.

“His inspiring words resonated with humility, respect and the importance of seeking God’s guidance in all aspects of life.

“These qualities would not only make them better athletes but also better individuals,” he said.

“Kamikamica encouraged the students to remain grounded and never let success go to their heads.”

He said Kamikamica recognised their dedication, hard work and countless hours of practice that culminated in this victory.
