Grace Road Issue ‘Will Not Affect Investor Confidence’

A crackdown by Government into the Grace Road Group, a multi-million-dollar Korean business, will not affect investor confidence, said Trade minister Manoa Kamikamica.
He made the comment in light of seven Grace Road employees who were put on red alert recently by the Ministry of Immigration.
It is business as usual, said Mr Kamikamica.
The group is the commercial arm of the Grace Road Church, which was labelled as a cult after its founder, Shin Ok-ju, was jailed for six years for detaining 400 followers in Fiji.
Its president, Daniel Kim, is in immigration custody.

The company started its Fiji operation in 2014 as an agricultural producer, and has since expanded to the construction, food, retail, hospitality, and renewable energy sectors.
The deportation notice served to the seven employees has since sparked a movement for justice both by employees and its customers.
A petition, signed by Grace Road employees, was received by Immigration minister, Pio Tikoduadua, yesterday.
“I want to assure all Fijians that our actions are not against Grace Road, but the individuals named in the Interpol Red Notices and those wanted by the Republic of Korea,” said Mr Tikoduadua.
