Aten Prasad is today acknowledging his blessing today after his family was spared from a near-death situation yesterday.

Mr Prasad was travelling to Labasa Town from Naleba with children aged four and 10 years and his pregnant wife when a sugarcane field near Cawaira was ablaze.

The afternoon fire and thick smoke caused poor visibility for drivers.

“I have never experienced such a near-death situation like this, we could have died if we didn’t act immediately,” Mr Prasad said.

Divisional Police Commander (DPC) North Senior Superintendent Kemueli Baledrokadroka said: “Due to poor visibility, the vehicle veered off road and was caught in the fire, where it was destroyed.”
