Tokoriki Resort Celebrates 28th Anniversary

If there is a model in the tourism industry that someone wants to emulate in this country, it would be Tokoriki Island Resort.
Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Viliame Gavoka made those remarks during the 28th-anniversary celebration on the property yesterday.
The minister acknowledged the current owners, Andrew and Yvonne Turnbull, who put a great deal into the privately owned luxury boutique five-star resort.
The resort is located in the Mamanuca Islands. It also won a number of globally acclaimed awards.
“Absolutely Tokoriki Island Resort is iconic,” Mr Gavoka said.
“It’s a product we are proud to have in the portfolio of offerings in this country The product is as good as ever and they have a stronger relationship with the landowners, Yanuya Islands over the years.”
Owner Andrew Turnbull said: “If George (Rawalai) had not informed my daughter who was 12 at that time, that Tokoriki Island Resort was for sale, nothing of this could have happened.”
He said that thanks to their, the resort had resulted in a memorable 28 year journey.
One of the oldest staff members on the property, Mosese Wainiravu, 66, had been part of the property even before Mr Turnbull bought it in 1995.
He said the event was a true testament that it attracted all the tourism stalwarts.
“It is a great change from 30 years ago; the villagers are granted employment, and also from other parts of Fiji. We work as a family,” said Mr Wainiravu, who started his career as a boat man then joined activities.
He said the resort has assisted the village through the education of its students over the years.
