Water Issue Resolved in Wainikoro Settlement

The water saga at Wainikoro Settlement and nearby areas has been resolved.
The Minister for Public Works, Ro Filipe Tuisawau last Friday confirmed that the water problem stemmed from land lease problems.
Ro Filipe was concerned when the problem escalated to the denial of water supply to more than 2000 residents, including a health centre in the area.
Authorities acted when the water cut was highlighted by the Fiji Sun last week.
Ro Filipe thanked the landowners of the water source for resuming supply at 2.32pm on Friday.
This is after they met senior officials from the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF), and iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), Commissioner Northern and Macuata Provincial office.
“The meeting had indicated a positive resolution whereby iTLTB will provide a lease offer with special conditions to WAF at the earliest time – this was achieved today (Friday),” Ro Filipe said.
“I am told that at the meeting, the landowners indicated to open the water source for WAF’s use once the lease offer is finalised and a copy provided to them. These are some of the outstanding issues from the past 16 years, which Government is now working to resolve.”
Apology
Ro Filipe apologised to the landowners and those who were affected and promised that the situation would be fixed quickly.
WAF said 206 metered customers were part of the Wainikoro water supply system.
