Naroi Chief Installation Brings Joy, Unity to Village

Moments of joy and unity swept through Naroi Village in Moala, Lau Province, as islanders celebrated the long-awaited installation of their chief, the Tui Nasau, Roko Josefa Saronicava Waqairatu.
Roko Josefa, 73, was installed to the position, which was left vacant for 64 years.
The late Roko Taito Waqaiqera was the last Tui Nasau installed in 1959.
This momentous occasion brings together family and loved ones across Fiji and overseas.
The event started with a church service, before the traditional installation was conducted with respect by the Nakoroicake clan.
Men, women and children of seven villages on the island of Moala came to Naroi Village to witness this historical event.
Speaking during the installation, Tui Nasau emphasised the importance of education for the children of Moala.
He acknowledged the unique challenges they faced daily because of their remote geographical location, but encouraged them to persevere, study diligently, and strive for a brighter future.
Roko Josefa also promised his commitment to overseeing the welfare of the two clans in Naroi Village and the island of Moala.
He pleaded with the people of Naroi to stand by him, and work hand in hand to uplift their village and improve the lives and development of its people.
“This is the beginning of a new chapter in our collective journey towards progress and prosperity,” he said.
The Tui Nasau had held executive positions during his tenure as a civil servant, demonstrating his commitment to public service and leadership.
As the people of Naroi Village embrace their newly installed chief, they look forward to a future filled with hope and opportunity.
Students and teachers from neighbouring schools also gathered in a show of unity.
There are two yavusa (tribes) in Naroi Village: – Yavusa Nasau and Yavusa Turagalevu.
