The South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) community held its inaugural Businesswoman of the Year Awards last week.

The occasion to celebrate the work and contributions of its members in 2022, attracted 2500 members from SPBD centres across the country.

However, it would not have been possible without SPBD volunteers and employees, who worked diligently behind the scenes in the lead-up to the event.

Salanieta Coroinagasau and Mere Miller coordinated the catering for the awards prepared by SPBD members.

“The first 13 centres to pay $50 were given the chance to make the food to sell and cater for members,” Ms Coroinagasau said.

These centres had to supply a menu beforehand and were required to provide that food.

“Catering was handled by centres in Naitasiri, Tailevu, and Suva,” said Ms Coroinagasau who was in her first year of organising the Businesswoman of the Year Awards.

Ms Miller however, was in her third year of coordinating the meals for the event.

“We had three meetings to sort out one-size takeaway packs for all the centres and the $10 cost per serve,” Ms Miller said.

The menu that evening would feature a variety of food, including lovo, seafood, and barbecue.

From her experience, Ms Coroinagasau said: “It is not an easy task. We work with so many women and we do this on top of our duties at SPBD.”

Both women are based in Suva. As part of their work at SPBD, they often travel to interior Viti Levu to collect loan payments from members every week.
