Bus Accident Claims 23-year-old Woman’s Life

A 23 year-old woman is the latest road fatality victim.
Eyewitnesses said the woman was hit by a Nasese bus while crossing at the Stinson Parade in Suva yesterday afternoon.
Police spokesman Wame Bautolu said the victim was transported to the hospital by a passing vehicle and had died upon arrival.
“The bus driver is now in Police custody, however, more information will be released after her next of kin were contacted,” he said.
The accident caused a huge traffic congestion as bystanders crowded the area. A witness, still shaken from the incident, said everything happened so fast.
“The victim was hit by the bus while running across the road,” he said.
“The only thing that captured my attention was when the victim was motionless on the ground, covered in blood.
“Commuters in the bus got off to help the poor young woman until authorities arrived at the scene.”
A bus passenger said the victim had appeared out of nowhere.
“She probably thought that she could make it across the road before the bus, but it all happened so fast,” he said.
Police investigations continue.
