Nasese bus driver granted bail

The 21-year-old bus driver who is charged for the death of a 23-year-old woman in Suva was granted bail yesterday at the Suva Magistrates Court.
Ronal Vikash Nair was bailed on $1000 and two sureties while making his first appearance yesterday before Magistrate Jeremaia Savou.
He is charged with one count of dangerous driving causing death.
It was alleged that on October 26, the Nasese bus, which was driven by Nair, hit the woman at Stinson Road in Suva, while she was attempting to cross the zebra crossing.
During the hearing, defence lawyer, Nikil Chand told the court that they were applying for bail.
Magistrate Savou asked defence to present the two sureties who was his uncle, who is a bus driver and a family friend who was a businessman. Both sureties were asked of their confidence to control the accused’s behaviour during the period of his bail and to make sure that he doesn’t reoffend, to which they agreed in confidence.
Although Nair does not own a passport, Magistrate Savou said in any event, a stop departure had been issued for him. Nair was ordered by the court to report to the Nakasi Police Station every month beginning from November 4.
