Son Witnesses Dad’s Fatal Accident

Witnessing the fatal accident which cost the life of his father will be a memory hard to erase from Selvin Naidu’s mind.

It was a normal fishing day for father and son that Sunday morning when they travelled from their home in Nawaka, Nadi to fish at the Lomolomo Bridge at Vuda, Lautoka.

The trip ended in tragedy after when the 56-year-old victim Salesh Naidu is alleged to have crossed the road.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro said Naidu was bumped by a vehicle driven by a 63-year-old man.

“He was rushed to the Lautoka Hospital where he was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival,” she said.

“The suspect remains admitted at the Lautoka Hospital as investigations continue.”

Ms Naisoro said it was the country’s latest road fatality.

Mr Selvin Naidu, 37, who lived alone with his dad, said his father always took him everywhere he went.

“We never leave each other after my mother passed away,” he said.

“That day he was happy because we got a good catch of crabs and fish. It was about 4pm when we decided to go back home.

“My father crossed the road when a speeding minibus bumped him. The impact of that incident saw him hurled a few metres and land at the roadside.”

“A four-wheel drive vehicle came and the driver help me rush dad to the Lautoka Hospital. I kept calling his name, but he didn’t respond.”

Police said the road death toll stands at 66 compared to 35 for the same period last year.
