A war of words have has started for the annual Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl challenge as both parties
attended the launch at Nasova grounds yesterday.

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) have opted to be underdogs this year.

RFMF Commander Brigadier General Ro Jone Kalouniwai said they had not recovered from last year’s loss.

RFMF lost 11-19 to Police in last year’s challenge at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

“We’ve had our setbacks throughout the season; we did not defend the World Defence Cup in France and recently the Escott Shield.

“I will admit that we are still picking up the pieces from last year’s loss.

“I must commend Fiji Police Force for their contribution to rugby, not only in 15s but 7s as well.

“When we step into the field we will treat you as champion, we will treat you at your level not only in terms of skill and strategy but also strength.

“We will try to give you the challenge that you deserve.

“Our goal is not to win, but hope that both teams will be satisfied that we give our utmost
best on the day.

“I hope that this Ratu Sukuna Bowl challenge will be a display of true spirit of rugby, skill, sportsmanship and mutual respect.”

In response, Fiji Police Force acting Commissioner Juki Fong Chew said they would do their best to keep the Sukuna Bowl where it rightly belongs in Nasova.

The Sukuna Bowl competition starts November 27 in Suva before the main rugby match at Prince Charles Park in Nadi, on December 1.

Meanwhile, chief guest Vodafone Fiji board chairman Joweli Taoi said: “The Ratu Sukuna Bowl has rich history as we all know, it stands as a symbol of national pride and unity.

“It is a platform where all forces showcase their dedication, discipline and athleticism.

“It is a stage where they compete not as rivals but as brothers and sisters.”
