Cawaki is New MSAF CEO

Joeli Cawaki is the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) chief executive officer.
In welcoming him into his role the Minister for Public Works, Meteorological Services and Transport, Ro Filipe Tuisawau, said MSAF was a critical organisation that looked after our maritime sector.
Ro Filipe looks forward to working with the newly appointed CEO who has vast experience in the maritime sector.
“I’m happy to hear there is a strategic plan in place. The new CEO will give directions and help in areas we must work on,” he said.
“This plan will outline areas for improvement not only in the maritime areas, but shipping services too.”
This will be a new movement for the maritime sector in Fiji.
Mr Cawaki said a lot of work was needed to improve the maritime sector where industrial visits were crucial to find out the weakness and build on MSAF’s strengths.
“There’s a gap between us as administrators and the industry,” he said.
“I have spoken to the various managers it’s our job to provide services to industries, without the industries there is no MSAF.
“It’s supposed to be a two way communication. There’s a lot happening within the industry without our knowledge.”
He emphasised the need to review our laws for industries to move forward.
After hearing concerns from various industries, a maritime council will be formed to look at all issues raised by managers for endorsement.
The council will decide if MSAF needs to have a maritime symposium.
