From Police Woman to Lawyer, Breaking Barriers

Arieta Rarawa Naisake, a devoted mother of three, is the newest member of the Fiji Police Force to receive a law degree while still serving in the field.
Yesterday, Ms Naisake, 25, was admitted to the High Court bar.
Her story is one of resilience as she continues to break barriers and set new standards in her pursuit of excellence.
The Kalabu, Naitasiri, native comes from a family deeply rooted in hard work and determination.
Being a solo mother, she believes that women’s empowerment matters a lot.
“Women should make it a point to get formal education,” Ms Naisake said.
“We shouldn’t have to depend on men for our livelihood.”
Her parents, who run food stalls at sporting events and festivals as well as market stalls at the Valelevu Market, have always been her source of support.
Her steadfast spirit and capacity for multitasking are demonstrated by her dedication to her family and her work.
“It took me five years to complete my studies, and it has been very challenging, but I did it,” Ms Naisake said.
“Every time I gave birth, it was hard. Sometimes I pondered whether I should just give up.”
For now, she plans to remain with the Fiji Police Force.
She is currently based at the Valelevu Police Station but is on attachment with the Prosecution Section at the Nasinu Police Station.
If anything, Ms Naisake’s story should inspire aspiring professionals that, with determination, one can overcome challenges and achieve success at a young age.
