Don’t Count PNG Out! Samoa, Fiji Warned

The Papua New Guinea men’s and women’s rugby sevens teams stand a good chance of qualifying to next year’s Paris Olympic Games in France.
During the opening day of the Oceania Rugby Sevens Championship, they caused upsets in the men’s and women’s competition.
In the women’s division, PNG walloped second seed Samoa 36-7 and is now a threat to the Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team. The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games bronze medallists recorded big wins over Cook Islands and Tonga to stamp their authority in the competition.
In the men’s qualifiers, Manu Samoa is on track for a historic qualification to the Olympic Games. The Brian Lima coached-side thrashed Solomon Islands and Tuvalu. However, Papua New Guinea will cause a few anxious moments after they beat Tonga 24-21 on Friday night. The competition continues today at the Ballymore Stadium in Brisbane, Australia.
