Diwali Spirit Amiss

The shopping spirit of Diwali is missing, says Labasa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Vinesh Dayal.
He urges businesses to light up their shops and buildings during Diwali celebrations.
With only days left, the spirit of Diwali is not evident in Labasa Town as many shops are not decorated and not creating a lively atmospheres for customers to feel like spending money compared to previous years.
“Let’s all celebrate Diwali, the festival of light over darkness and good over evil with a national mood of inclusiveness and sharing,” Mr Dayal said.
“We must not indulge into excessive fireworks.”
He is calling on people to be responsible and considerate of others, especially after 10pm, during the celebration.
Savusavu business
Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Ravi Chhaganlal said Diwali shopping spirit, which used to be experienced in the past, was missing this year.
“I believe there are many contributing factors such as deaths in families, increasing cost of living and students preparing for exams,” Mr Chhaganlal said.
“Whatever the reason, I just hope people celebrate responsibly and consider safety at all times.”
Skyglory relocated
Meanwhile, one of the busiest shops in Labasa Town is Skyglory Pte Limited.
This was one of the six businesses that were destroyed in fire on August 26.
