Two people who died in the Lomaiwai road crash on Saturday, November 4, was remembered for honouring their wedding vows until their deaths.

Asesela Cokanacagi, his wife Meresiana and their nephew, Jonacani Nawainaqila, were killed in the horrific accident when the car they were travelling in collided with a bus.

They were buried on Saturday. Mr and Mrs Cokanacagi at Lautoka while Mr Nawainaqila at Tavea, Lekutu, Bua. Mr Cokanacagi, 61, was the former general manager operations at Fiji Pine Group and a FijiFirst party candidate for the 2022 General Election.

The memorial service for the couple was held at the Coronation Church in Lautoka.

Speaking on behalf of the Fiji Pine Group Mataiasa Nabau said Mr Cokanacagi, who worked for the company for 13 years, was a man of ethics and integrity.

The car wreck parked at the Sigatoka Police Station. The three passengers who were killed in the accident are Asesela Wata Cokanacagi (inset/from top left), Meresiana Cokanagi (inset/bottom left) and Jonacani Nawainiqila (inset right).

“His work impacted landowners to give their land to the pine industry,” Mr Nabau said.

“His trait served him well when he started with Fiji Pine in 2009. He was an estate supervisor then elevated to manager operations before promotion to general manager operations until his retirement in 2022.”

FijiFirst party leader Voreqe Bainimarama and Opposition Members of Parliament attended the service.

Opposition leader Inia Seruiratu spoke on behalf of the party.

The couple is survived by their three children and grandchildren.
