It was a bleak Diwali for Anil Kumar and his family of Nadi after his son was killed in a fatal car accident at Barara Flat, Lomolomo, Lautoka yesterday. 

Dead is Amitesh Kumar, 33, who was travelling alone when the car he was driving collided head-on with a bus, according to Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro. 

His father, Anil Kumar said the accident happened after Amitesh dropped off some friends in Lautoka. He lived at Vuniyasi, Koromakawa, Nadi. 

The tragedy even broke his heart more having lost an elder son a few months ago. 

“We were waiting for him to return for prayers. We didn’t celebrate this Diwali because we lost his elder brother three months ago. 

“This Diwali, we lost this son again. It is a very sad Diwali for us,” Mr Anil said. 

Amitesh was a bachelor and the second eldest of four children. 

Mr Kumar was informed about the accident by his son’s friends and Police. 

He described his son as a “kind-hearted person.” 

“We miss him. He was a good boy,” he shared. 

An eyewitness claimed Mr Amitesh was allegedly driving at high speed when he overtook a car in front of him before colliding with the bus. 

The bus was said to be on its way to Suva.
