High Court grants extension in TikTok cyberbullying appeal

The High Court in Lautoka has given the appellant 21 days to file submissions before the State responds.

The appellant in a TikTok cyberbullying case involving Anisa Khatoon Gwaizda has been granted 21 days to file submissions in the High Court in Lautoka.

The matter was heard yesterday before Justice Riyaz Hamza.

Gwaizda faces two counts of causing harm by posting electronic communications, contrary to Sections 24(1) and 24(2)(a) of the Online Safety Act 2018.

The court heard that between June 1, 2021, and January 1, 2022, Gwaizda allegedly posted electronic communications intended to cause harm to her step-sister and niece.

Gwaizda was represented by Brown and Prakash Lawyers, while the State was represented by Sheenal Swastika.

The court granted the appellant 21 days to file submissions, after which the State is expected to file its response.

A hearing date has yet to be fixed.
