The national netball coach’s name has been withheld pending Fiji National Sports Commission’s acknowledgement, says Netball Fiji chief executive officer Vivian Koster.

“There is this agreement between us and NSC regarding salary, once they acknowledge the coach’s name we will be releasing her name,” Koster said.

“We will leave it there,” she said.

“We will put out a press release so that all media organisations are informed.”

Time is running out on NF as they need to downsize the national squad in preparation for the March PacificAus Sports series in Sydney.

The Fijian Pearls take on Samoa, Tonga, Papua New Guinea and Cook Islands in the March series in Sydney, Australia, from March 21-26.

This series is part of the three year agreement taken by Netball Australia in its commitment to delivering positive outcomes in the Pacific, which was announced in May as part of the Australian Government’s PacificAus Sports programme.

Working in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Netball Australia is supporting development of pathways for athletes from Samoa, Tonga, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.

The same Pacific countries will meet again in Fiji (as hosts) in July to determine the two countries to represent the Oceania in the World Cup in Cape Town in 2023.

Australia and New Zealand have already qualified for the World Cup.

The Fijian Pearls training squad has been without a coach since Jenny Brazel’s resignation in September.

“We will need to trim the squad; it is only natural that we regroup the 20-member squad.

“They have not had any competition for so long to test themsleves,” she said.

National team manager is former Pearls captain Lusiana Rokoura.
