The Government’s Care and Protection Allowance has assisted more than 9000 families from August 2021 to date.

Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar said that the allowance is a social protection scheme specifically targeted at assisting poor and vulnerable children through providing monthly cash allowances and food vouchers.

The beneficiaries include children living in single-headed households, children with elderly caregivers, children with disabilities and children in residential care homes.

Ms Akbar said the ministry was pleased that the Government’s budget for 2021-2022 continued to support the funding of the existing social protection programmes/schemes such as the Poverty Benefit Scheme (PBS), Disability Allowance (DA), Social Pension Scheme (SPS), Rural Pregnant Mothers Food Voucher Program, and the Care & Protection Allowance (C&P).

The budget allocation for the Care and Protection Allowance was $12.3 million for this fiscal year.

Applications for Care and Protection Allowance can be lodged at the nearest welfare office. Applicants would be required to fill an application form which will be validated by a welfare officer.

Applicants would need to provide documentation, including a birth certificate, with the same documents for their children, including their birth certificates, school letters (if children are in school), a letter from a recognised community leader, two passport-sized photos for each family member under the scheme, TIN or combined FNPF number, vaccination card, and bank account details.
