Individuals aged 60 and above who are still employed by a registered employer can continue contributing to the Fiji National Provident Fund (FNPF), even though voluntary membership is generally limited to those aged 59.
The clarification was provided during FNPF’s Annual Member Forum held at the Labasa Civic Centre today, which drew members eager to learn about the fund’s initiatives, financial performance, and future plans.
FNPF Senior Manager Member Services Farnaz Queet explained that while voluntary membership is capped at 59, employees over 60 who meet entry requirements can remain members and continue contributing.

“If you are 59 and below, you qualify for voluntary membership provided you meet the conditions. We have received requests for those aged 60 and above, and we will take that on board. But currently, the age limit is 59,” Ms Queet said.
She added, “If you are still in the workforce and being paid by a registered employer in your 60s, you are welcome to remain a member of the fund, provided you meet the entry requirements.”
The forum also addressed pre-retirement benefits, voluntary contributions, and how members can use FNPF savings to support tertiary education through the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service (TSLS).
Ms Queet highlighted that students could use their parents’ FNPF savings to pay for tertiary education fees if they qualify.
“If you have children who qualify for tertiary studies, parents, siblings, or even working brothers and sisters can assist in paying their fees through FNPF,” she said.
The event forms part of FNPF’s ongoing efforts to engage with members and raise awareness of its services and policies.
