The two teachers charged over the running down of a Queen Victoria School student inside the school compound have been removed from the school, Minister for Education Aseri Radrodro confirmed yesterday.

"The QVS matter is before the police so we'll wait for them, and we have taken the necessary steps, like removing the teachers from QVS," Mr Radrodro said.

The two teachers — aged 45 and 26 — were charged with criminal recklessness and negligence under the Crimes Act 2009 after a Year 13 student was run over by a vehicle inside the school compound.

The vehicle was allegedly driven by one teacher who was learning to drive, while the other was in the passenger seat giving instruction.

The injured student, Simo Boladrau, was hospitalised following the incident. His rugby future, including representing QVS in the under-18 Deans competition, remains uncertain.

Both teachers were released on bail and are expected to appear in court on March 19.

Mr Radrodro, a former QVS student himself, had earlier visited Mr Boladrau in hospital.

The minister was speaking on the sidelines of the Father's Day service at the Centenary Church in Suva yesterday.

Meanwhile, Mr Radrodro confirmed that schools used as evacuation centres following recent adverse weather would reopen yesterday, after he visited Nadi Muslim College on Saturday to distribute relief items to evacuees.
