Young lawyer fulfils promise to late uncle

A promise to his late uncle had inspired William Tukana Rosa to be the first lawyer in his family.
Mr Rosa, the youngest of five siblings from Lomaiviti and shares maternal links to Yacata in Cakaudrove, was sworn in as a legal officer in Suva on Friday.
He described the moment as an overwhelming achievement for him and his parents, as they stood by and supported him throughout his journey.

He said their sacrifices played a major role in helping him reach the milestone.
His passion for law was inspired by his uncle, who passed away in 2020. Before his uncle’s passing, he had promised to follow his footsteps and pursue a legal career.

“This was specifically balancing assessments and maintaining good grades,” Mr Rosa said.

Growing up in a supportive family environment also shaped his desire to pursue law and serve people in his community.
Support from his parents and siblings, along with their prayers helped him overcome difficult moments during his studies.
Entering the legal profession, Mr Rossa hopes his journey will encourage other young people in Fiji to pursue their goals.
He advises youths to believe in their abilities, remain focused on their education and listen to the guidance of their parents.
