Secondary school students in Bua Province have been given a timely warning on the dangers of poor decision-making as drug-related cases rise nationwide.

The message was delivered by Fiji Corrections Service (FCS) Assistant Superintendent Samisoni Naba during the opening of the Bua Zone inter-school competition at Bua College today.

Speaking to students from five schools, he stressed that the choices they make today will shape their future.

“Decision-making is critical,” Mr Naba said. “Corrections personnel are witnessing firsthand the long-term damage drugs are causing to children and young people.

The consequences affect not just physical health, but also families, education, and entire communities.”

He explained that drug use can lead to addiction, health complications, broken family ties, and lost opportunities.

“We are seeing the consequences every day, and many of those affected are young people who made the wrong choices early in life,” he added.

Turaga na Tui Wailevu, Ratu Jovesa Maivalili, who was also present at the event, urged students to stay grounded in their values, respect their upbringing, and make decisions that uplift both themselves and their communities.

The FCS is currently in Bua conducting awareness activity during the Bua Zone Meet which involves five schools from across Bua — Bua Central College, Ratu Luke High School, Naikavaki College, Immaculate Conception College, and Lekutu Secondary School.
