The crowd at Nasova were at the edge of their seats when Police stormed to a dramatic 9-8 win over the Republic of Fiji Military Forces side. The win enabled Police to reclaim the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl men's touch rugby title yesterday.
Speaking after the match, captain and assistant coach Paul Derroch described the intensity on the field as nothing short of fierce. "It was quite an intense matchup," he said.
"If you witnessed the game, you'd know how hard it was fought on this ground. We weren't going to give anything away on Nasova ground, not for the Sukuna Bowl."
Although tensions ran high during the match, Derroch highlighted the sportsmanship shared between both sides at the sound of the final whistle.
"Once we walk out of the field, it's all fun and games we're friends. But inside there, it's business.
We're going to fight for what we want, and we weren't going to give away Nasova."
The physicality of the match showed on the players' bodies, with several leaving the field.
"It's normal on Nasova ground people will bleed for Nasova. Today, we bled and brought back the title we lost last year.
"We weren't going to make the same mistake twice. This victory goes to our organisation, our families, and first and foremost to God who gave us the talent to showcase on the field for the people and the sport we love."
The competition continues today.
