Upgrade works are under way at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital to improve the Acute Ward at the East Wing.
Assistant Minister for Health Penioni Ravunawa said works are being carried out in stages within a fully operational hospital, with measures in place to minimise disruption to patient care and daily hospital activities.

Phase 1, covering acute medical and surgical ward areas, sluice and storage rooms, will begin on May 11 and is expected to run for about six weeks.
Phase 2, which includes the main bathrooms and toilets, pantry, staff and multi-functional rooms, will start on June 16 and continue for two months.
During the upgrade period, patients and visitors may experience temporary inconveniences such as construction zones, noise, dust and short-term changes to access around work areas, Mr Ravunawa said
"Where disruptions cannot be avoided, advance notice and alternative arrangements will be provided in coordination with hospital management," he said.
“We appreciate your patience and understanding as these essential improvements are undertaken.”
