Small business owners across Fiji can access free business training and advisory services through the Ministry of Commerce and Business Development's MSME Fiji Unit, but many are unaware of it.

Chief Business Advisor Ms Phinaisi Liao made the comment yesterday at a certificate presentation ceremony at the Civic Tower Building in Suva, where about 25 entrepreneurs completed a three-day business training under the Trade Enhancement Programme.

"If you are unsure how to start, run, or improve your business, come talk to us," Ms Liao said.
"We can register you in this free business training to help get your business running."

The unit has offices in Suva, Labasa, Lautoka, and Rakiraki, and Ms Liao said advisors can even visit businesses directly.

The training, called Start and Improve Your Business, covered bookkeeping, cash flow, financial planning, marketing, and product development.

Ms Liao said keeping groups small, around 25 participants, was intentional to keep sessions interactive and allow participants to build networks.

Participant Doreen Wati said the programme changed how she thinks about running her business.
"We’ve learned that customers are the most important asset in our business—they are the boss," she said.

Fellow participant Salawai Dauveiqaravi echoed that, urging others to start small and grow.
"Start small and grow big," he said, adding that diversifying products was key to staying competitive.

Ms Liao said the Ministry planned to certify more trainers to meet growing demand.
"We are receiving many requests from relevant agencies," she said.
"Our goal is to help your business become sustainable."
