Students of John Wesley College in Raiwaqa, Suva, have been urged to work hard, remain disciplined, respectful and faithful to God as the school celebrated its 30th anniversary today.
Methodist Church in Fiji and Rotuma president, Reverend Semisi Turagavou, delivered the message during celebrations marking three decades of the school’s contribution to education and nation building.
The Ministry of Education and church pastors were part of the event.

Reverend Turagavou, in his speech, stressed the importance of Christian values at a time when society was facing increasing challenges such as drugs, violence and declining moral standards.
“To the students of John Wesley College, you are beneficiaries of 30 years of sacrifice and prayer; honour that legacy through hard work, discipline, respect and faithfulness to God,” Rev Turagavou said.
“The Methodist Church has always viewed education as an extension of evangelism, where every classroom becomes a place of ministry, every teacher a witness and every school a mission field.”
History
John Wesley College was established in 1996 by the Methodist Church to help meet growing demand for secondary education opportunities within the Suva-Nausori corridor, particularly for students from low-income communities and informal settlements.
The school’s first classes were held at the Annesley Infant School hall while awaiting formal approval from the Ministry of Education, which was granted in July 1996.
In 1997, the school relocated to the Raiwaqa Primary School site and became known as Raiwaqa Methodist High School.
“We are confident and hopeful for the future of the institution, praying that John Wesley College will continue to grow from strength to strength and remain a beacon of Methodist education in Fiji for generations to come,” Reverend Turagavou said.
